6. To see social media in action

Social media is a big part of any online community and most everyone involved in the online world. It’s so important that Cliff launched a podcast about it last summer called Social Media Serenity. I’m involved very much in social media with a presence on Facebook, Twitter and Plurk. Through these outlets I have made friends all over the world and have re-connected with people I knew years ago. Social media has extreme power to make a difference and when so many are involved it’s amazing. On one of the early episodes of SMS, the hosts read my e-mail about my experience using hashtags at last year’s CNMC. Basically, we used Twitter throughout the weekend with the hashtag #cnmc09 to report on our experiences at the conference and during the weekend. We also were able to find new Twitter friends to follow and identify avatars to people based on what they wrote.

Another awesome thing that happened was with a new organization called Real Men Pray the Rosary. In one of the sessions, the presenter talked about this organization. One person tweeted about it, and then within minutes that was re-posted several more times further spreading the good news. It was pretty rad.

I’m looking forward to seeing social media in action next weekend and what it leads to.

Guess what?! I was that ‘one person’ who started the tweet about “Real Men Pray the Rosary”!
