Tooth Debacle

by admin on February 14, 2010

It’s been almost two weeks since this happened, but I’m finally getting around to posting about it. A few weeks ago, I went to the dentist for a cleaning and told them that I was having pain in one of my teeth. It turned out that it was a wisdom tooth and the only solution was to pull it out and I would have to go to an oral surgeon for it.

On Monday, February 1st, I had my very last wisdom tooth pulled. I got quite a bit of advice and stories from my online peeps which helped a lot. I stopped at the mail box to drop in some mail, and found out after I had pulled away that I accidentally dropped in my X-Ray! This turned out to not be a problem because they took a new one with a super cool machine. And because I’m a big geek with technology, I took a photo and erased my name off of it to post here. Oh yeah! 🙂

That whole week was quite painful. I was on soft foods for several days and was on some amazing pain meds. I thought when the surgeon prescribed cool foods for the first day he meant for more than that day, so I cooled down my food for four days. This thought was disproved and I stopped doing that. I ran out of oatmeal by Thursday, so I was back on hard cereal on Friday which was painful. I remembered seeing a commercial on heating shredded wheat in milk, so I tried that on Saturday and it was wonderful! I don’t need to do that anymore, but it’s still really good.

The surgeon prescribed ibuprofen and hydrocodone, which I did get and they were helpful. I wasn’t a fan of the after-effects of taking the big med, so I eventually only took it only when I was home and at night so I would have control and not be in a fog during the day. By the end of the week, my meds ran out, so I continued on with Tylenol Extra Strength as needed.

It is now almost two weeks since my surgery and I am back to normal eating and pain-free. It was a painful process, but I learned from it and have survived. Hopefully I don’t have to do it again for a long time. If I do, I’ll be more prepared than this time…
